Agricultural merchants, farmers, and livestock breeders gather annually at the Cockermouth Agricultural Show to strut their products, produce, and livestock to the public. The Cockermouth Agricultural Show, which annually takes place in front of The Fitz in Keswick, is a huge attraction for farmers and agricultural merchants alike.

Each year since its inception, thousands of farmers all over the United Kingdom and some countries from the European mainland, flock to fill Keswick Hotels, inns and Hotels near Keswick and some hotels in the neighboring cities in the Lake District. The 2007 Cockermouth Agricultural Show was cancelled at the last minute though, due to a large outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the Surrey. According to Keswick Tourist Information reports, there was a large drop of expected guests and participants because of the outbreak that year.

Apart from the usual fare you get from such gatherings, there are also some information dissemination going on. With the rapid advance of the agricultural technology, new methods of farming, breeding, and manufacturing of agricultural products are also presented in form of seminars and film showing.

Most farm animals that are presented in the show are cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and poultry (even ostriches).

Everyone and any one is welcome at the Cockermouth Agricultural Show, even if you do not have an inkling of living in a farm. Aside from farming lessons and products, guests to the event can also have a great time when it comes to entertainment and treating the gastronomic urges. If you love dogs, then you will be definitely getting a kick from watching dog shows and dog competitions such as dog racing and sheep herding.

Breeds that usually join canine contests and shows at the Cockermouth include sheep dogs, foxhounds, and terriers. Guests are also encouraged to take part of several contests, such as the Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, so they could bask and experience the Cockermouth Agricultural Show atmosphere.

Food is also a major attraction during the Cockermouth Agricultural Show. With so many food stalls that are scattered throughout the events grounds, one can certainly say Cumrbian food is really something. Among the favorite dishes and foods being served during the gathering include the famed Grasmere Gingerbread, Westmorland Mutton and Potato Pie, Cumbrian Damson Cobbler, Waberthwaite Bacon, and the Cumberland sausage.

If you have a sweet tooth, you will also love Cumbrian sweets that are sold at the Cockermouth Agricultural Show. The world famous Kendal Mint Cake is certainly a best seller, as it is been the unofficial pastry for mountaineers who are going on expeditions. Apple tansy are also a huge thing for people who love pies and puddings.

With so much to watch out for and expect, expect Cockerland Agricultural Show 2010 to be a blast.
